The New York Public Research Group founded the Straphanger Campaign in the late 170’s due to the poor transit conditions. As a result, there has been great progress in the subway system but on the other hand, this organization is not recalling how the subway system got to this improvement.
In 001, the Straphanger Campaign reports, “the subways are improving, fewer breakdowns, more regular service, and cleaner cars,” (Russianoff 1). These report findings were determined on the best subway line, the worse subway line, the overall improvement, productivity, and mechanical failure. Once this report is finish, the organization evaluates it with the report from the year before to see the differences. It looks that this organization takes the day-to-day operation of the subway for granted, but there is a large effort behind to keep it all working. What they want is regular and reliable service, a chance for a seat, a clean car and clear announcements, but it is impossible to accomplish all these if we do not have newer cars. As a rail car technician, I have been witnessing how the Metropolitan Transit Authority (M.T.A) has been improving the subway system in designing and implementing newer cars with a modern technology, better ways of communication and the transformation of new turnstiles to allow the use of new magnetic cards to pay the fare (Metrocard). Since 17, I have had the opportunity to work with two of the major contractors of the Metropolitan Transit Authority, Kawasaki Rail Car and Bombardier transportation, which are rail car manufactures. As a result, I found out that the R rail car model is dating from 164 and the most numerous on service right now. This old model is been gradually replaced by the R14 and the R14, which are cars equipped with computer technology. Every component in these new cars is been controlled from a computer touch screen.

As per my own experience with these lines, I think that L is a good line because has new cars on service and the W and the G are running less than other lines. Furthermore, the C, Q, and R are going to keep getting worse unless the M.T.A get more new cars as they did on the lines that are improving.
Today, the New York City subway is one of the largest and most complex systems of its kind in the world serving the four boroughs of Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx.
