All of her dreams and hopes were cut short because she was not part of Hitler’s “Perfect Race”. She was Jewish, an outcast according to Hitler.
The family was betrayed before Anne finished her work. The final entry was on August 1,1944. On the 4th of August they were arrested and sent to separate concentration camps. Thanks to the carelessness of Nazi soldiers taking Anne and her family into custody the literary world was given the opportunity to experience captivity of a young girl through her own eyes.
Both Anne and her sister Margot got sick with typhus. Margot fell out of her bed and died instantly. Anne sensed her sister’s death and later died of loss of hope. Anne father was released and returned to the Secret Annex. There a friend of his discovered Anne’s diary and gave it to Otto Frank, Anne’s father. He read the diary and found out she had recorded everything so accurately. He then decided to look for a publisher.
He found a publisher in the summer of 1947, 1,500 copies of Anne’s diary was made. Otto Frank had fulfilled Anne’s dream of being a writer. The diary has become world famous and in fifty years has published in 55 languages, more than 20 million copies sold, and plays and films have been produced based on the diary.
