I think that for the young people of today, that alcohol and drugs are almost seen as a normal experience. I don’t have a friend or family member over the age of eighteen who has not tried alcohol and most of them have tried marijuana. When entering this program, I felt that this was just another way for our courts to make money and for us, the youth offenders, to make us earn our right to drive. Not that I don’t think it’s right to make us work, but just that I feel in this instance, the penalty exceeds the crime. I personally don’t feel I drink or use too much. If I was using/drinking the amount I do now, when I am 0 or 40 or even older, then I would be concerned. But right now I am in college and experimenting, but keeping it in moderation. Moderation is the key to keeping in control and being able to maintain a clear mind/head.
I can’t say I have never driven while under the influence, but I definitely think it is wrong. I always think about the small chance you could hit someone or some family and seriously injure them or even kill them.
Something from this program I found interesting was when we put on the beer goggles. Seeing the way I actually see when intoxicated was a trip. Attempting to play catch with a 0.16 blood alcohol level was extremely hard. But interesting because that was probably my blood alcohol level when I felt I was fine to drive, and did so.

I think overall there is a positive message being given from these meetings and I think this class gives some insight to the people who feel they might be out of control or even though those who don’t want to admit they’re having problems.
