Surfing is one of my favorite sports, and it requires large waves for a good day of surfing. During a trip to Florida in 16 I had a frightful experience with the waves and the sea. I was in the learning stages of surfing and I really enjoyed the experience of surfing because it gave me a sense of freedom among the water. Back then I was a beginner, even though I had a couple of accidents, surfing was all about taking the best wave, taking the risk, which is how big surfers come about. Hurricanes are very common in Florida during this time of the year, and I had the experience of being there through hurricane seasons before.
It was a day of rough waters and large waves, perfect conditions for surfers that would come out in large numbers to surf those risky waves. I thought I was ready for this and I really wanted to try the more advanced stages in surfing, so gathered my belongings and headed straight to the beach. At this point in time we had come for a family vacation from Venezuela and I was not too fluent in English. As I swam into the dangerous waters, I was thrown out a couple of time because of the strength of the waves. It was hard to make it to the place where we had to wait for the wave to start, but at this point I kept on going it was a challenge and didn’t want to give up. I made it up to the middle of my way when a big wave with a surfer on it came in front of my face and I had to get out of the way, because somebody was already on the wave and there is nothing worse for a surfer than to find someone in the middle, because everybody has to make their way around. I lost control of things but I managed to get out of the way in time. Regardless of this, the big wave hit me with such immense force that I lost my surfboard. I was extremely nervous because it is hard to just swim in such a rough sea and without my surfboard I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to make it back out. As I swam back a huge wave just kept on throwing me around and I could get back up to breath all this time I was in the water and I was losing my breath. It felt like a lifetime in order for me to grasp a breath of air, I struggled for three to five minutes before I could catch a good enough breath to yell HELP! I knew I had just risked my life and all I wanted it was for this ordeal to be over and I could get out of the beach. A kind surfer helped me out and placed me on his surfboard and safely took me out of the water. I was in tears and all I could say was thank you. It was a very scary experience I had risked my life not realizing I wasn’t ready to take such a challenge I was just a beginner and I should have never attempted surfing in such rough waters. I was very naïve and didn’t realize the danger involved, it was not something I had done intentionally knowing that I would have been placing my life in danger.
At my work we have to stock bottles of alcohol that come in packs of twelve bottles per case. One night I wanted to complete my tasks quickly so I didn’t take the necessary precautions. We usually have to place the cases in a car in the warehouse and then take the car out to the floor. That night I couldn’t find any available cars so I just decided to carry the cases myself all the way out to the floor. I did this all night and the bending with the cases was the hardest part, but I didn’t feel anything then because I was to busy getting my job done. These cases were so heavy that next day I could barely walk, my back was in immense pain and I had to go to the chiropractor for therapy because I had actually injured my back. At therapy I had to explain what happened and they had told me that it was very risky on my part to have done that, and I was extremely lucky because it could have been worse. There was the possibility that I could have caused serious problems to my back. It was a fault on my part putting myself at this risk because I was lazy enough to keep looking for an available car and the rush of getting done my job didn’t let me think of the consequences that I will have to deal with the day after. At the time I was doing this I didn’t know I was taking any risk or otherwise I would not have probably done it.
