Play Response
Tellers Troubadours was a very unique play, in-fact it wasn’t any one single play at all, rather a serious of performances and one acts that were all student written, directed, designed, choreographed and performed. “Seven years ago six eager students, took my Readers Theatre TA 1 class…Since that wonderful beginning a program or narrative theatre and storytelling has been created that now goes by the name of Tellers and Troubadours.” (J. Omar Hansen) The performance consisted of 4 short one acts in this order What the Moon Saw, The Brothers, The Horned Witches and The Dastardly School Chum. Also included in the performance were various musical numbers that gave a brief comedic relief as well as something different to digest.
Although 4 different plays were performed they all seemed to carry a familiar spirit about them, they all had oppositions to overcome. For example in What the Moon Saw by Hans Christian Anderson a young painter discovers that his antagonist is not a person, but rather a lack of knowledge on what to paint, his protagonist is the moon herself with all her travels and experience. The play leads us to than ask, in a world of uncertainty and cruelty is there still beauty to be seen? In The Brothers by Valerie Appel the Theme seemed to focus on the brothers getting along, and what brought them happiness. Whereas the gold represented that happiness and also disagreement, in the end they finally discovered that they needed each other to have both the happiness and disagreement in their lives, just as gold needs to be melted in a fire to make it pure. After intermission The Dastardly School Chum by Omar Hansen seemed to occupy the majority of the night. Perhaps more than any this play reflected upon the villain vs. hero them with the damsel as the reward.
Custom writing offers papers on Tellers and Troubadours
In conclusion I enjoyed most and was bored by some. With their fast comedic humor it was very easy to get into the play and enjoy it, but I found that when there was slow gaps I had to almost force myself to pay attention to the different plots, but that was far and few in between. I was impressed that a lot of the production was done by students, which makes it easier to not criticize, I have to give them respect for the efforts that they did put into it and know that they have profited and learned from their experience. While I didn’t learn much I did receive utility through my enjoyment, I would willingly attend the next performance of Tellers Troubadours next winter semester.
